County Elections Director to retire Jan. 31, 2018
Hillsborough, NC (November 28, 2017) – Orange County Elections Director Tracy Reams has announced her retirement effective Jan. 31, 2018. Reams, who has been serving the voters of Orange County as Elections Director since January 2008, has more than 34 years of county government service.
Reams began her county government career in Nash County in 1984 and served 10 years as Nash County Elections Director before being hired by Orange County.
“After 34 years of county government service, I think I am going to take a break, spend some time with family and work on some travel plans for the summer,” Reams said. “I will also be involved with animal welfare projects and community services in Nash County. I am looking forward to the next exciting opportunity to come in the future.”
Under Reams’ leadership, the Board of Elections implemented several improvements over the past decade, including updated voting machines throughout the county and electronic poll books. She credited the Board of County Commissioners for providing the funds necessary to upgrade county voting equipment.
Orange County had a 71.1% voter turnout for the November 2016 General Election, higher than the state average of 69.0%.
“I am most proud of the working relationship I have established with my election colleagues and feel blessed beyond measure that I got to be a part of such a great team,” she said.
Orange County has begun the process of finding a replacement.
