Orange County Government to close at 1 p.m. Thursday, all day Friday due to Hurricane Florence

ORANGE COUNTY (Sept. 12, 2018) -- Due to the expected arrival of adverse weather conditions as a result of Hurricane Florence, Orange County Government will cease normal operations on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. County offices will be closed on Friday.

Orange County Public Transportation will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days as long as weather conditions allow for safe operation. OPT can take residents to an emergency shelter. Their routes will be modified on Thursday and Friday to make stops at the shelters.

OPT can also handle individual requests for service to the shelter. To request a ride, call (919) 245-2008 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday or Friday.

Orange County Solid Waste will suspend all recycling collections at 1 p.m. Thursday and will not collect on Friday due to weather conditions. A makeup date will be announced in the future.

The Waste and Recycling Centers and Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday and will reopen when weather and road conditions allow.

The Orange County Animal Services after-hours animal drop will be open and checked throughout the day by staff caring for animals at the center.
