    Do you have a hearing problem? Have you fallen recently? These two simple questions are the first step to assess a patient’s hearing status. Patricia O Johnson, AuD, F-AAA, ABA Certified, Doctor of Audiology and UNC Hearing and Communication Center Staff will provide the screenings at the senior centers. There will also be an explanation on the causes and symptoms of hearing loss.

  2. Active Seniors - Seymour

    Join us for various activities offered in Spanish. This group offers socialization, exercise, and learning with other seniors in Spanish. Typical gatherings might involve discussing health, relaxing activities, and/or learning a new skill (eg navigate social media, computer, or an English conversation). At noon the group participates in the Lunch program. The qualifications for participation in it are to be 60 years or older and reside in Orange County. If you don’t qualify for the program, you may purchase a meal for $6. If you have questions or require transportation, please call 919- 245-4279 (ex 1) for additional information.

    Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc. provides free legal services to low-income individuals and senior citizens on a variety of civil legal issues. A licensed attorney will present on legal topics relevant to senior citizens at the times listed below. Presentation topics will include Consumer Protection Law; Advanced Directives – Wills, Living Wills, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Powers of Attorney. Individual applications for legal advice and representation on civil legal matters can be made to the Senior Legal Helpline at 1-877-579-7562, M-F, 9 – 11 am and 1 – 3 pm.

  6. Heartfulness Meditation - Seymour

    Weekly meditation sessions last 25 - 30 min with a simple relaxation technique and a guided group meditation. These meditation techniques are effective and simple and something that can easily be integrated into one's life style. The sessions are open to everyone irrespective of religion, nationality, personal beliefs or other demographics. No prior experience necessary. Regular meditation helps: improve cardiovascular health, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, increase coping and problem-solving skills, and decrease burnout.
