  1. Chinese Folk Dancing - Seymour

    This is a fun and low-impact fusion dance class suitable for women 45+ years old. This dance class will give you a chance to learn Chinese folk dance in an effective and creative way. While the dances taught in this class will be primarily classical and ethnic Chinese folk dances, they also combine Latin dance techniques.   2. Symposium: Examining Historic Lynching in Orange County - Passmore

    February 2, 2019, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Passmore Center

    The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Northern Orange Branch of the NAACP, Free Spirit Freedom, and scholars from North Carolina Central University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will hold a symposium to examine lynching in Orange County. The event will be held at the Jerry M Passmore Center, which is also a co-sponsor. Between 1865 and 1941, more than 150 men and women in North Carolina met their fate at the hands of “Judge Lynch”. The symposium will examine this act of violence in microcosm, highlight what gave rise to a “lynch mentality,” and explore the anatomy of a lynching and measures to curb this act of violence.     Not sure if your cell phone is an android or iPhone? If you want to learn more about your iPads, kindles, tablets, or whatever device you may have, this is a great opportunity. You will get one on one instruction from our tech savvy high school students. Your own personal Tech Assistant will be available to address your specific needs and inquiries with you for 45 – 60 min every other Saturday.     Learn and ask questions about the traditional head covering that Muslim women wear, have refreshments, and try a henna tattoo in celebration of World Hijab Day, promoting a peaceful society for all through knowledge and interaction.     Special registration will be offered Saturday, February 2 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. only at the Central Recreation Center, 302 West Tryon Street, Hillsborough. At this time, registration may be made with a 25% deposit on camp fees. Payment due in full by April 15, 2019.
